for top quality instruments I recommend Peter Daffy - an Australian maker who produces bouzoukis, mandolins and guitars
I am a musician, and play traditional music from the Celtic and European traditions on bouzouki, mandola and tenor banjo, both solo and in band and duo contexts. I wanted a short scale length bouzouki to suit my playing style, and to have a similar fret spacing to the Irish style 17-fret tenor banjo. So I designed a short scale bouzouki which has been very successful.
My standard design is made in Amazon Rosewood for the sides and back, European spruce for the soundboard, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard with tulipwood binding and herringbone purfling. It has a round soundhole and can be made strung in octave pairs on 3 out of 4 courses, or unison pairs throughout. The bridge is a floating type, with a tailpiece string fixing. This I consider produces a superior sound to the guitar type pin bridge found on some models. The tuning machines are Schaller M6 minis in chrome plate - the best on the market.
This model is priced at A$2000 plus delivery. Cases are extra.
A Fishman internal soundboard transducer can be fitted for A$150 extra, or a Martin thinline bridge pickup for A$250. Both of these options have a tailpiece jack socket. Headway Electronics units are also available.
I require a down payment of 30% of the final invoice price to commence the order, with the balance payable on delivery. Waiting time needs to be negotiated, depending on the other orders in hand.
Alternative style instrument. This is the prototype I made for myself.
